Get Certified!

The Alvo Institute’s Blended Learning certification programs can be completed in 2-12 months. These courses are ideal for new teachers, master teachers, and administrators. We offer Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced certification tracks.

 

Blended Learning Overview Certification

Participants must be a or have been a classroom teacher or school/district administrator. Participants can also come from other educational experiences who are interested in learning about Blended learning.

Can be completed in a little as 2 months and can be extended to up to 12 months

  • 40 hours learning about the major components and key success factors of the 5 most common blended learning modalities (in class rotational, lab rotation, flipped classroom, flex, self directed)
  • 20 hours of practical implementation experience: working in a small group of other emerging blended practitioners explore how to use and create blended lesson plans, create and select online resources, select and use end user devices, create classroom procedures for a blended setting, develop elements of a personalized learning plan to use BL as a path to personalization.

Online synchronous: Weekly online forum discussion and live webinars on a variety of topics

Online asynchronous: Access online content, templates. Using reading guides for required readings.

Levels of Certification 

Basic certification: Must complete all online work and full participate in webinars forums and complete an end of course demonstration of learnings (to be designed by participant…but must meet certain specifications as defined by the rubric)

Intermediate certification: complete all of the above plus attend 2 one day in person regional workshops. Choose from:

  • Oakland, CA
  • Los Angeles, CA

Advanced certification: complete all of the above plus Must attend the regional workshops AND one 3 day regional workshop to observe successful blended schools and a presentation of learning (to be designed by participant…but must meet certain specifications as defined by the rubric)

Instructional Coach Certification

Participants must have at least 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience or similar experience working with students in an instructional setting

Can be completed in a little as 4 months and can be extended to up to 12 months

  • 40 hours learning about the major components and key success factors of the 5 most common blended learning modalities (in class rotational, lab rotation, flipped classroom, flex, self directed)
  • 30 hours leading how to use cognitive coaching to support a teachers transition: how to use observation and feedback tools, how to create a digital portfolio of teacher and student work and how to help teachers set and monitor goals ( can test out if able to demonstrate high level of competency in this area)
  • 50 hours of practical coaching experience: working in a small group of other emerging coaches along with an Alvo team member, each coach in training will work with a teacher transitioning into blended learning
  • 20 hours reflecting on coaching experience and developing a pd path for the coach

Online synchronous: Weekly online forum discussion and live webinars on a variety of topics

Online asynchronous: Access online content, templates. Using reading guides for required readings.

Required readings will include:  books: Blended, and On The Rocketship, and several articles and publications

Continuation Credit

Alvo is currently working with a number of universities to offer continuation credits for work completed in workshops and the Certification Course.
